The potentiality of complex calculations applied to the most diverse fields of knowledge has deeply fascinated artists. This fascination has fostered the growth of an abstract art form based on the repetition of geometric modules and inspired by the trust in design against chance, of programming against accidentality. Due to its reproducible qualities, art becomes immaterial and inherent to software rather than the object it produces. From the late Sixties, factors such as the increasing informatization in our society and the diffusion of global communication platforms generated a tendency towards art dematerialization and language expansion. This tendency encouraged examples of “new media art”, developed in the following decades hand in hand with the quick evolution of technologies.
