František Kupka (Opočno, Czech Republic, 1871 – Puteaux, France, 1957) is a case of particular interest among those historical avant-garde painters searching for a view of the world brought back to its dynamic essence, exploring the non-visible based on scientific disciplines. Around 1911, he used pictorial space to experiment with creation and perception. Kupka created a series of paintings in which the represented image is deconstructed according to a system of colored stripes, with an outcome surprisingly similar to the effects of today’s digital composition. Shortly after, this would bring the artist to remove any figure from paintings and embrace total abstraction.
