Casey Reas (Troy, USA, 1972) used software to develop the grounds of Processual Art, a movement born in the mid-Sixties focused on the construction process of artworks. In particular, he creates generative animations produced by algorithmically coded processes. Thus were born Process 18 (Software 6) and the other compositions in the series Process Compendium, generated by a combination of programmed behaviors applied by software to simple shapes like lines and circles, giving life to continuously variable configurations. Reas is a co-author, with Ben Fry, of Processing (since 2001), a software and programming language for artists. Processing changed the history of creative coding and became the fulcrum of a global community of artists, designers, and programmers.
