In the video installation by Antoine Schmitt (Strasbourg, France, 1961), several white luminous particles move around a black square surface, following an algorithm programmed by the artist. The random movement of pixels, simulating the movement of photonic particles, delineates the void exemplified by Malevich’s Black Square, one of the main instances of Radical Painting brought to the extreme of representing nothingness. The Russian painter intended to destroy traditional art restarting from the void as the supreme beginning of human creation.
