Hyperreal artworks are illusions of the material world, reconstructions of reality that are only seemingly true. Duane Hanson (Alexandria, USA, 1925 – Boca Raton, USA, 1996) creates sculptures in painted polyester decorated with clothes and accessories and inspired by everyday objects and topics. The sculptures aim to represent unidealized life-sized human figures, realistic portraits of today's society standardization. His choice of ordinary subjects – regular people far from the canons of ideal beauty – amplifies the illusory effect, inspiring a sense of estrangement in the viewer due to the trick's unveiling.
