Since the late Nineties, Eva & Franco Mattes (Brescia, 1976) have been exploring the Internet universe, firstly using the web as a medium and then exploring the social impact of living while constantly connected. The cable trays of the series of sculptures Personal Photographs, installed in different locations of the museum, continuously transfer the pictures shot by the artists over a day between two microcomputers placed at their extremities. The images are not visible, as it is today for most photographs, created to circulate on networks without ever being transferred to physical support. Nostalgia, May 3 is an exception: it contains several personal photos of their friend and fellow artist David Horvitz, erased from his devices during the Nostalgia project. By saving them on one of their circuits, the Mattes preserve the pictures’ existence, respecting the need to ensure their author’s invisibility.
