Pablo Picasso

La bouteille de Bass, 1912-1914

The advancement of scientific discoveries and reflections around space-time – the so-called fourth dimension - have strongly oriented the interpretation of cubist research. Picasso (Malaga, Spain, 1881 – Mougins, France, 1973) progressively verges towards a dynamic “staging” of the Object through its decomposition into abstract planes and geometric lines. This process attained complete fulfillment around 1912, here depicting a Bass beer bottle. Space and matter are compenetrated until they almost disappear, to the benefit of pure visual data, mere information. That is how the pictorial field opens up the possibility of dematerialization.
