BERGAMO
Leap into the void. Art Beyond Matter.  >  Void - Room 1

Agostino Bonalumi

Bianco, 1975

Starting from the late Fifties, Agostino Bonalumi (Vimercate, 1935 – Desio, 2013) begins his research focused on space. At the time, he regularly visited Lucio Fontana’s studio and started experimenting with overcoming the limitations of the canvas through extroflections. He created artworks (called “Object-Paintings”) by inserting elements behind the canvas and creating protrusions. Although accentuated enough to resemble a plastic bas-relief, the linear and rhythmically repeated movements still belong to the painting world, creating an osmotic relationship with space while granting a shape to the void.
